Definition
A bet token given by a bookmaker, usually as a promotion. If a free bet wins, you normally receive only the winnings, not the value of the token itself.
Free bets are common in Zimbabwean bookmaker promotions, but the rules vary a lot. Before using one, check:
- Stake returned or not? Most free bets pay winnings only, as in the example. A few return the token value too.
- Minimum odds and selections. Some free bets require, for example, several selections each at a minimum price.
- Expiry. Free bets usually expire after a set number of days.
- Wagering on winnings. Sometimes winnings from a free bet are added as bonus money with a wagering requirement before they can be withdrawn.
- Which markets count. Some sports, markets or bet types may be excluded.
A free bet is a marketing tool designed to keep you betting. Use it within the same budget and rules you apply to your own money, and never deposit more than you planned just to unlock one.
